My good friend R., who is a long term Loot Crate subscriber, offered me to test one out for free. So I did and ordered the Loot Crate for February 2016. February’s theme was aptly named ‘dead’ and I will tell you why in a moment (I feel like the image above is descriptive enough though).

For those of you who are not familiar with Loot Crate, it’s basically a subscription service, where you can get geeky gaming gear and merchandise. You can pick among several of Loot Crates to subscribe to (for example the standard Loot Crate, Loot Crate Anime for anime merchandise, Loot Crate Pets with stuff for your dog, Loot Crate Gaming, etc.). Every month there’s a special theme but you don’t know what is in the box that will arrive to your doorstep until you open it.

Subscription box: Lootcrate
Description: Lootcrate is a famous subscription service for geeks. Lootcrate offers a multitude of themes crates.
Price: starting at £16.49 + P&P
Shipping: ships to most countries, $6 to the US, the rest varies by country

My Loot Crate arrived on February 29th, although I picked it up on March 1st because the box didn’t fit into my mail. 🙂 And while my Loot Crate is not the gaming one, I can still post this here because it features a character who has had a video game made based on him.

The box itself

The box is larger than I expected, standing around 26.5 x 16 x 14 cm (10.4 x 6.3 x 5.5 in). It’s all black with Loot Crate logos on it and a QR code which leads to the Loot Crate website. To my surprise it arrived in pretty much intact state all the way from the USA, which is something to be grateful for. The box is made out of sturdy cardboard.

First look inside

The month’s theme is printed all over the insides of the box, which I feel is a really nice touch. I like how everything fits perfectly inside and there is no space wasted. I have to say, I didn’t know what merchandise I would get, so when I was greeted with Deadpool merchandise, I might have squealed like a fangirl because I just love him.

Here is the list of things that my February 2016 Loot Crate included:

  • 1 Deadpool womens’ t-shirt in size M (size and type can be chosen at checkout)
  • 1 Deadpool Q-fig figure
  • 1 The Walking Dead mystery figure
  • 1 The Walking Dead soaps on a rope
  • 1 Loot Crate pin
  • 1 Loot Crate magazine

Lootcrate Deadpool TshirtDeadpool t-shirt

The sizing fits perfectly and the t-shirt is really comfortable and soft. The print seems to be of great quality as well. There are no loose threads sticking out. The only let down of this t-shirt is that it is not 100% cotton. It’s 60% cotton and 40% polyester. Aside from that, it’s a great t-shirt.

Deadpool Q-fig figure

This Deadpool figure is really great. It’s about 13cm (5.11in) tall, the circle base is 8.7cm (3.42in) wide. At first I thought Quantum Mechanix missed an opportunity to make the explosion behind Deadpool lit but then I found out you can shine a light through the backside of the figure and it will create a great effect.

The Walking Dead figure

The Walking Dead figure was a mystery until I opened the packet. I got the zombie figure, which was a pain to put together since all the parts (except the head and the platform) were very difficult to snap into place. After hurting my fingers trying to assemble it, I gave up and used small pliers to put the limbs into their proper place. Otherwise the quality seems good, all the parts are positionable/turnable. The figure is approximately 7cm (2.75in) tall.

Soap on a rope necklace

Lootcrate soapsI’m probably one of the few people who don’t watch The Walking Dead, so when I opened the box I had to laugh at what the heck did I just get. It’s really funny and while I will not be wearing this when I go out, soap is always useful, even if it’s in the shape of an ear.

Loot Crate Pin

Every Loot Crate comes with an exclusive pin each month and you can get exclusive free stuff by going to the Loot Crate website as described. This month it was free Carl Grimes for the mobile game The Walking Dead: Road to Survival. Unfortunately I could not get it because my country was not eligible for using the code provided. Shame.

The pin itself features a zombified Loot Crate. 🙂

Manufacturer: Loot Crate Labs
My rating: 10/10

Loot Crate Magazine

Lootcrate magazineThe Loot Crate magazine is also one of the things found in every box. This issue features an article about “How to survive a zombie apocalypse (for geeks & gamers)”, some trivia about Deadpool, a poll to find out which Walking Dead character you are, a recipe for Deadpool’s Deadlicious Tacos, excerpt of an interview with Rahul Kohli who plays Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti in CW series iZombie, an overview of the things that you get in your February 2016 Loot Crate,  mentions of contests and some helpful related links.

I think Loot Crate is definitely one of the top subscription boxes for geeks. Even if you don’t consider yourself one but like to collect merchandise like this, I would recommend maybe trying one out for yourself. I think the price is great because the overall value of the products inside Loot Crate is way larger than what you pay for.

My overall review: 10/10

I will definitely be trying out the Loot Crate Gaming box in the future and once I do, I’ll make sure to post a review here as well.

Have you ever tried Loot Crate or maybe another subscription service like this? Did you like it? Did you find it was not for you? Do you have any questions about Loot Crate? Please let me know in the comments!

Thank you very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

  2. Makes me want to get it now. Always heard about Loot Crate and being an avid gamer myself, it definitely appeals to me. Seeing what came in this one, might have to try this out soon. Thanks for sharing the info on what you got this month with it, much appreciated.

Thank you for your comment, Chris! I’m glad to hear it’s something you might be intrested in getting. I’m happy to have another gamer on board! This is the basic Loot Crate and I’m quite interested what the Gaming Loot Crate looks like now. 🙂
Glad that my article provided you with some useful info!

  3. Loot crate! I didn’t even know this was a thing! Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

You mention this is a subscription? So are you going to be posting your future “treasures”?

Don’t worry about squealing like a fan-girl, at least you ARE a girl. When I do it people seem to react negatively…maybe it’s because I’m a 200+ pound bearded man…dunno?

Love the detail you put into this, I’ve seen these types of offers (not nearly so geeky) before and I gotta say, my fear gauge starts going up because it seems like you could end up getting some pretty sketchy stuff.

Your post really helps alleviate those fears. 🙂

      You’re very welcome, Jack!

Right now, I unfortunately cannot afford to have a monthly subscription. I’m also not interested in March 2016 theme. In the future I’ll definitely see about getting the Loot Crate Gaming box, even if just to try it out.

And hey, I don’t really mind it if men go all fan-boy over stuff. 🙂

Thank you for your response! I’m glad I somewhat managed to dispel your doubts. I know there can be sketchy offers like this but Loot Crate is probably one of the best known geeky subscription boxes there is. 🙂

  4. Very nice description of Loot Crate. To be honest I never heard about this before. Maybe also because I live in Germany and not USA. Anyway lately I don’t play anymore video games but I used to for actually my entire life until a few years back when I decided to focus on internet marketing. Deadpool looks really cool and I would order one if they deliver to Germany. Do you know if they deliver to Germany and if they do , do you have any idea how much does it cost?

    • Comment by Dana - owner

Hi Constantin, thank you for your comment!
I’m actually based in Czech Republic and yes, they do deliver even to our neck of woods! The cost depends on which crate you are getting (Basic, Gaming, etc.). From what I can see, the basic Loot Crate to Germany would be about €28/month. If you subscribe to more months at once, the price goes lower (3 months – €26/month, etc.)

I encourage you to visit their site, there is plenty of info on there. 🙂 If you have any questions, please let me know, I’ll be happy to help.

  5. Comment by Rob

How have I not heard of Loot Crate when I’m a gamer?! This looks really cool actually. You definitely lucked out for your Deadpool pack since you’re a huge fangirl :p I love the Walking Dead and those little gifts look pretty cool! I’d be hype!
I’m pretty interested in this thing here, looks like a cool little box too. Thanks for posting what you got in yours!
Though I have a question, you got a shirt and said you could pick the size at checkout, is there always a shirt involved? Did you know you were getting a Deadpool shirt or was it random?

    • Comment by Dana - owner

Hi Rob and thank you for your comment! Happy to see another gamer here! 🙂

I was so happy to see Deadpool as the first thing there, so much excitement! 🙂 As for the Deadpool t-shirt – no, I didn’t know what kind of items I would be getting. I only knew that February’s theme was ‘Dead’ and that’s about it. I had no idea about the type of franchise I’d be getting nor the type of items.

From what I know, a t-shirt is not always guaranteed, so it can be another item instead of a t-shirt. I think the only things guaranteed is the pin and the magazine. The rest is a mystery but at least you get some idea of what theme the package is for the next month.

If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
