PC & Console Fishing Games

Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour

Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour has been released in September 2018 for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC by Dovetail Games.

This fishing game includes a career mode, where you compete against famous fishermen across the world. You can also create our own custom multiplayer.

The locations are somewhat limited, there are only 10 fishing locations and only 29 species of fish in the basegame. The fish behavior is influenced by weather and time of day, making the game more realistic. You can own a boat and can equip a GPS and a sonar.

The graphics is great but the game mechanics can be clunky for some people. It’s definitely a game made for people who are into fishing.

The game includes in-app purchases and also DLCs which are pretty expensive compared to the competitors’ games in this genre. For that reason it’s better to wait until the game and the DLCs are on sale.

  • great graphics
  • weekly challenges
  • custom multiplayer

  • expensive DLC
  • locked at 30 FPS
  • limited locations and species

You can get Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour for the following platforms:

Ultimate Fishing Simulator

Ultimate Fishing Simulator has been released in August 2018 for PC and May 2020 for Xbox One by PlayWay S.A. There are plans to release this game also on the Switch and Playstation 4. There is currently Ultimate Fishing Simulator 2 being developed as well.

This game contains two modes, normal and realistic. In normal mode, there’s no lack of fish, you get a bite 100% of the time. In realistic mode you have to be more patient and a bite is not guaranteed. There’s also a multiplayer and you can also play this game in VR if you buy the DLC.

PC Gameplay

The game features boats, yacths, motorboats as well as underwater camera to help beginners. There is also a nice trophy room to view all the fish that you caught.

The graphic is really nice and very realistic. There is a limited number of location and fish species, although those are being added as DLCs. The DLCs are reasonably priced though, unlike the above Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour. If you don’t like any of the locations, you can create your own maps with level editor and sandbox mode.

The Xbox One version is a bit behind compared to the PC updates, but the game is still being updated, the developers are very responsive to feedback and general questions.

The fishing areas are quite small and the equipment prices are too high, which makes the game a bit unrealistic. Hopefully the developers can fix that. The game can be too easy for some and it may be a bit of a grind.

  • realistic graphics
  • level editor, sandbox mode
  • reasonably priced DLCs
  • responsive support and frequent updates

  • fishing locations are too small
  • prices of equipment can be quite high
  • might not be too realistic for some

Best Free To Play Fishing Video Games

Why Free Fishing Video Games?

Well, why not? If the option is there, it’d be a waste not to try them out if you’re looking for a good fishing game. It’s certainly an advantage to try these out and maybe figure out what you like or don’t like in your fishing games.

Many people complain about microtransactions in free games but I’m sure all the money goes to the upgrades and bug fixes and, in the future, towards new games. It’s logical that without paid pro-gear the game would be slower and more grind-like. If that’s something you don’t like, you should give these games a pass.

Fishing Planet

Fishing Planet was released in August 2015 by Fishin Planet LLC on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4. Despite the release date, it is still being updated. Fishing Planet also exists as a paid game but per the reviews, it’s not as good.

This game is one of the most popular free fishing games. It has more than 120 species of fish with unique behaviors, 19 locations, all types of weather, day/night cycle, seasons, photorealistic graphics. The game offers 3 types of fishing – float, spinning, bottom.

Fishing planet gameplay

The game offers a pretty realistic fishing experience; you need the right lure for the right fish, the fish don’t bite as much as casual players would probably like and you need fishing license to fish in certain locations. This game is multiplayer and you can actually see and speak to other players.

However jam-packed the free base game is, it can be a bit of a grind unless you pay for premium equipment / ingame currency with microtransactions. That being said, you don’t need to buy anything, the game is relaxing and enjoyable without.

  • multiplayer
  • realistic graphics
  • a lot of fish species
  • quite realistic fishing experience

  • microstransactions (“pay to win”)
  • steep learning curve
  • some items and travel fees cost too much
  • online only

Russian Fishing 4

Russian Fishing 4 was released for PC in June 2018 by Russian Fishing. Since then it’s still been in Early Access on Steam. It’s a game designed by anglers for anglers and as such can be considered one of the most realistic free fishing games on the market.

There are more than 80 species of fish, 11 locations with new ones being added for free. The game features uniue weather conditions, advanced fish behavior depending on the time of day, species and weather.

Russian Fishing 4 gameplay

There are 3 types of fishing available – float, spinning, bottom, which are all drawn from real experience. The gme is relaxing, has pretty realistic physics but there is a steeper learning curve if you’re a newbie to fishing.

As with Fishing Planet, the game packs are expensive and there are microtransactions. However, you don’t need to use them at all but be aware that leveling up can be quite slow and feel a bit like a grind. Equipment can be expensive, so keep an eye on your in-game money.

The game is advertised as a multiplayer but at this time it is limited only to an in-game chat. You can’t see other players. The game contains competitions and tournaments as well.

  • great graphics
  • realistic fishing experience
  • free movement – fish from the shore or a boat

  • microtransactions
  • “multiplayer” chat only
  • can’t sell items except fish

You can get Russian Fishing 4 for FREE for the following platforms:

Professional Fishing

Professional Fishing was released in November 2018 for PC by Ultimate Games S.A.. The game contains large maps, each fish species behaves differently according to real life experiences. Every fish fighting is different as well.

Professional Fishing gameplay

This game is multiplayer, you can join fishing clubs and join tournaments against other fishing clubs, or participate in a duel.

The graphics is great and the game is relaxing. As other free games it includes microtransactions, so that you can level up faster. It is definitely not necessary to purchase them but you’ll progress slower. If you don’t mind that, then it might be a game for you.

  • great graphics
  • large maps
  • competetive multiplayer

  • microtransactions
  • not many English speaking players
  • slow progression

You can get Professional Fishing for FREE for the following platforms:

PC – Steam
